DEATH by Euphemism ™

Tens of millions of people die each year from a variety of causes including: natural death, diseases, hunger, and violence. In one year alone, over 10 million children died of causes that were largely preventable. [1] While scientists, medical workers, and educators continue their efforts to addresses world health issues, it is our contention that there is a far greater threat at the root of all human suffering and destruction - we call it "death by euphemism"!

While, at first, it may seem unusual to equate euphemism, a mere expression, with the destructive consequences of deadly diseases, a brief historical examination of various crimes against humanity, quickly reveals that there IS a constant underlying pattern of language rooted in the deliberate framing of ideologies leading up to, and persisting during, the perpetration of the attrocities in question.

In other words, HOW issues are discussed, or hidden from consideration, through the use of euphemistic expressions, CAN lead to disastrous outcomes of global proportions!

We refer to DEATH by Euphemism ™ as any human suffering or fatality caused as a result of the deliberate use of, or dissemination of, euphemistic dialogue or idealogy. We hold those who knowingly perpetrate this form of obfuscation and concealment of important issues, CRIMINALLY accountable - should it lead to any suffering, injury or death.

While euphemism has mutated from a friendly instrument of literal civility into a global Weapon of Mass Deception (WMD), it is our belief that, through campaigns of public awareness, and significant changes in how people learn about and participate in the discussion of important issues, we CAN innoculate and protect ourselves from this pervasive social disease!
